Role at ICON:
I lead the Registry Consulting practice within ICON's Lifecycle Sciences Group. Our group is responsible for the design and on-going strategy of observational research programs including patient registries. In my role, I'm also very involved in business development and consulting—working closely with clients to help them develop their strategies and programs.
Background:
After several years in public health/epidemiology, I spent almost a decade at Merck, primarily as a Health Science Associate (what some companies call an MSL) in gastroenterology. I then joined Ernst & Young's Consulting group, and was involved in strategic, public policy, and research/development consulting. In 1993, I joined Ovation Research Group, which was acquired by ICON in July 2006.
Career challenges:
Time has always been my greatest challenge. I truly enjoy what I do, and always want to be involved in all the interesting pieces of our business, our projects, and our industry. I just don't always have enough time to do all the things I really want to do!
Career highlights:
I've enjoyed all the different phases of my career-the investigative
side of public health, the clinical training at Merck, the public
policy and consulting work at E&Y. But my role now brings it
all together-I really appreciate the opportunity to work with
sponsors who are developing fascinating new therapies, and
truly shaping the way disease is being treated and healthcare
delivered.
Working at ICON:
I've most enjoyed working with so many great people, in a great culture. ICON is filled with people who are bright, very committed to doing good work, and fun to work with.
On your own time:
Outside of work, I try to spend as much time as possible with my
family, including children Abbey and Colin and our Plott Hound
Boe. I have also always been very involved in sports and music,
and play tennis and sing whenever possible.
