Conventional Safety Markers and Potential Future Directions Patient safety is a major issue in clinical practice, as it is in clinical trials. The laboratory contributes to assuring patient safety through the provision of accurate results and reports, timely result reporting, reporting of alert or 'panic' values to the clinical staff, etc. But since the utilization of ' . quantitative measures of biologic effects that provide information links between mechanism of action and clinical effectiveness . (and) predict effectiveness are needed to guide drug development', this article will focus on proper utilization of laboratory tests and their limitations for assuring the safety of subjects in clinical trials.

Technological Advances In Clinical Trial Management Twenty years ago, pharmaceutical researchers looked forward to the day when advances in technology would reduce or even eliminate the truckload of paperwork required for a typical NDA submission. Many in the industry visualized an all-electronic clinical trial, and sophisticated software that could track patients, analyze data, resolve queries, prepare reports, create models, send alerts and even project outcomes, based on biochemical and genetic data.
